May 27th, on waking this morning we found ourselves justentering the mouth of the Rappahannock River. Sailed up toUrbanna and our escort (a gunboat) went back. Waited until 3oclock p. m.; set sail with an escort of two gunboats, it beingunsafe for us to venture alone as the country was infested withguerillas.
