The death of Seneca. Lucius Annaeus Seneca the Younger, c. 4 BC - 65 AD. Roman Stoic philosopher. He was accused (probably falsely) of being involved in a plot to assassinate the Emperor Nero and ordered to commit suicide. He did so in the presence of his wife and friends by opening his veins and bleeding to death. After a painting by Peter Paul Rubens.
