In September, 1882, Mr. Brandon represented the NationalBoard of Fire Underwriters at the National Convention of Fire <emmiscences oj Chief Engineers, held at Cincinnati, O. During this convention, Chieflyre M. Shaw, of the London Fire Brigade, took part in its delib-erations. Ex-Chief Brandon still takes an active interest in fire mat-ters, is a member of the Volunteer and Veteran Firemens associationsof this city, and is in the service of the Home Insurance Company,of New York, as surveyor of that William E. Bishop is an architect by profession, and joined 44Hose in February, 1849. He was one of fifteen who organized thiscompany, and for years wasassistant foreman and secretary. He was a short time amember of 30 Hose, fromwhich he went to 24 Engineand was elected its secretary,which position he held untilhe had finished duty as anactive fireman. He thenjoined the Exempt EngineCompany, where he re-mained until the Bishop did efficient workas a fireman, and in the differ-ent companies with which hewas connected he workedassiduously in their movement in the interest of the Old Department had hihearty cooperation, and when the old vamps participated in Evacuation Day festivities in 1883, he joined his old comrades in the grandestpageant ever presented in New York. From this parade sprang theVolunteer Firemens Association, and Mr. Bishop became one of itsinco
