Double Hellebore
Hellebores are widely grown in northern hemisphere gardens where they provide wonderfull spring/early summer blossoms. There are many cultivars - this is a lovely pale, double-flowered hellebore. The colour is a creamy-white tinged with green. What appear to be petals are in fact sepals which surround a ring of small cup-shaped nectaries which are actually petals shaped to hold nectar. We grow several varieties in our garden in the Scottish Highlands.
