There have beenseveral trial trips made over this railway alreadyto test the apparatus, which has been found tobe perfect, as our friend. The Beacon, declares,and the road will be put into commercial opera,tion by the time this number of the Gazette isissued. Fig. i. shows poles in position, beforethe overhead wires were put in place. The West End Street Railway of Boston, ofwhich this road is a part, is the largest streetrailway in the world. It over 212 milesof track, using 1,700 cars and more than 9,000horses. The president of the West End StreetRailway Co., Mr. Henry M. Whitney, of Boston,is universally recognized as being one of themost
