Two of three seated figures huddled at base of column at cathedral in Trento, Italy, the Basilica-Duomo di San Vigilio. The figures, in sculpted marble, are said to represent the sons of the man who master-minded the cathedral’s rebuild in Romanesque-Lombard style in the early-1200s, Maestro Adama d’Arogno.

Duomo di San Vigilio, Trento, Trentino-Alto Adige, Italy: two of three seated figures at south-east porch. Work began on the cathedral in the 1100s. Then, in 1212, the first structure was almost completely demolished to make room for a cathedral in the Romanesque-Lombard style, built by a team of Campione-based skilled workers, headed by Adamo d’Arogno. In the 1300s, the cathedral was enlarged and Gothic features added. The cathedral is dedicated to Trento’s patron saint, San Vigilio di Trento or Vigilius of Trent (c. 353 - 405), a Roman patrician who was consecrated Bishop of Trent.
