The difficulties offered by the natureof the ground formed one reason for selecting electric trac- supplies energy to the 600-volt city lines of Innsbruck. The Mittenwald Railway also has a power station of itsown situated about miles to the south of Innsbruck inthe vicinity of the Sill works. This station contains two3000-volt, single-phase, fifteen-cycle generators, having acontinuous rating of 3000 kva and a maximum output of4500 kva each. The energy from each generator is led toa 50,oco-volt oil-and-water-cooled transformer whichforms an inseparable unit with its generator. No 3000-volt busbars or switches are therefore needed, thus insuringextreme simplicity in all switching operations.
