A Japanese teppo, late Edo period Hakkaku barrel in calibre mm with slightly swamped muzzle. Katafuji rear sight and sugi front sight. Gold bronzed decoration of two dragons, bonji and aoi mon, of later date and rubbed at top. Underside of the barrel inscribed (partially translated) "Maki Hari No. 74 copied by Masatome after a design by Sukesaemon". Drilled-out barrel loops. Lock with external brass spring, slightly rough action. Lacquered kashi wood shaft in Iyo style. Wooden ramrod.
