The Mission San Gregorio de Abo stands on a grassy field at the base of the Manzano Mountains in central New Mexico. It is part of the Salinas Pueblo Missions National Monument. Created from surround Abo sandstone, Abo was first inhabited in the 1300's, with this structure being built in 1629. By the pueblo revolts of the late 1670's, both Native American people and Spaniard Franciscan monks left the area, leaving in their wake this amazing Christian mission, filled with rooms and kivas, along with man unexcavated mounds.
