Georges Teissier (1900-1972, left), French zoologist and geneticist with Marius Jacob Sirks (1899-1966, centre) Dutch botanist geneticist. Teissier is best known for his population genetics studies on the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster. Sirks is best known for his book the 'Handbook of General Genetics'. He was Secretary General of the International Union of Biological Sciences between 1935 and 1947, and its President from 1947 to 1950. Photographed in Tokyo, Japan, in 1956.
