Abundance of wood, andthe achievements of husbandry, impress on the par-ish a peculiarly snug and cheerful aspect. Of varioussprings of excellent water which refresh the inhabi-tants, a copious one near the site of the old manseof Pert is reputed to be antiscorbutic, and one inMartins den produces so plentifully that its streamwould fill a pipe of a foot in interior , of good quality, abounds; but is notmuch worked. Limestone was formerly mined andburnt to a great extent; but eventually proved un-compensating. Tlie Logie works, of theparish of Logie-Pert, a mile from the eastern extre-mity, connected with Logie village, and 4£ milesfrom the town of Montrose, consist of a flax-spinningmill, which employs about 130 persons, and a bleach-field for linen-yarns, which employs nearly population of the village of Logie is about Craigo works, nearly a mile farther up theriver, consist of a flax-spinning mill, machinery forfinishing cloth, a blcachfield, and a soda work, whichjointly employ about 300 persons.
