The slaughterhouse stood below and outside the townitself on what we always called the Slaughterhouse Roadand which we usually followed when going to the numerouslanes south of Cartago. These lanes, though runningstraight and parallel to each other for fully half a milesouth of Slaughterhouse Road, were remarkably individualin character, and one of them, our Shady Lane, was much.
