GULF (Nov. 19, 2016) Petty Officer 2nd Class Garrett Jollands, assigned to the guided-missile destroyer USS Nitze (DDG 94), participates in an M9 pistol qualification. Jollands serves onboard Nitze as a sonar technician and is responsible for ship surveillance and operating sonar equipment. Nitze, deployed as part of the Eisenhower Carrier Strike Group, is supporting maritime security operations and theater security cooperation efforts in the 5th Fleet area of operations.
