The inside of the Mosque-Cathedral of Cordoba (in Spanish: Mezquita-Catedral de Córdoba). It was originally a Catholic Christian church built by the Visigoths. Upon the muslim conquest of Spain it was converted into a mosque, and after the reconquest of the country by Spain's Catholic kings it became once again a church. Chapels and a central cathedral were added to the vast mosque structure at different times during the middle ages and renaissance, and the complex is an architectural oddity. It was made a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1984. In this image, the ceiling of the Catholic cathedral located in the centre of the mosque can be seen.
