San Marcos Church, Arica, Chile, South America


The San Marcos Church was assembled in the 1870's to replace the main church lost to the 1868 earthquake, this national monument was the city's first building constructed of steel and cast iron, with only its door made from wood. It was designed and prefabricated in France by Gustave Eiffel, Arica, Chile.
