My eldestsister being yet in thehouse, seeing the In-dians hauling mothersone way, and childrenanother, and some wal-lowing in their blood, and being told that her son William was dead, and that I was wounded, she exclaimed, Lord, let me die with them ! No sooner had she said this than she was struck with a bullet, andfell down dead over the threshold. The Indians now laid hold on us, pulling me one wayand the children another, saying, Come, go along with us. I told them that they wouldkill me. They said if I was willing to go along with them they would not hurt me. Ofthirty-seven persons in the house but one escaped; twelve were killed, and the others, mostlywomen and children, carried into captivity. The prisoners were divided among their captors;.
