An industrial building wasconstructed in 1895, which afforded much-needed workshops. In addition to the training school, Dr. Brown did much torender the life of the nurses employed more pleasant and theirwork more efficient. In 1902 a home for women nurses wascompleted and a corresponding home for men nurses in this last building were 12 large rooms for the accommodation r ;■. Among the last of Dr. Browns official acts was onelimiting the hours of duty of nurses to 70 hours per week, withone day of rest. When Dr. Brown was appointed the hospital contained 633patients and his official staff consisted of two assistant physiciansand a treasurer and clerk united in the same person. Whenadvancing years and failing health compelled him to resign in1906 the hospital contained 905 patients and his official staff hadincreased to six assistant physicians, a pathologist, a treasurer, asteward, a clerk and three stenographers, while the number ofemployees in each department had correspondingly it all the hospital was practically a new institution, havingbeen reconstructed throughout and greatly developed in all depart-ments.
