Workers stand at the head of a 20 metre vertical mineshaft and use an improvised rope and winding gear mechanism to retrieve gold-bearing rock. The vertical shafts have no supports or emergency exits and cave-in's are common, often with tragic consequences. Nearby lie 5 men entombed in a cave-in from a year before. THeir bodies have not been recovered.
