The sight ofland was one of the most glorious that could be imagined. By seven oclock that evening the Ell wood Walter was at anchor offHilton Head, surrounded by a hundred boats of all sorts and sizes, fifty be-ing gunboats, some armed tugs and several men-of-war. It was pleasant to be in the calm waters of the harbor and all the com-rades highly appreciated the change. In the morning the officers went ashore and reported to GeneralHunter, and on their return the company clerk brought on board a smallpiece of smoked beef. The comrades gathered around him, each anxious tohave a taste of wholesome food once more.
