NeAv diseases and alteration of diet, clothing, and dw^ellings have undoubtedly contributed largely. But civilized and semicivil- ized communities are often subject to similar influences, and thrive: whereas the native of low civilization, in many parts of the world, passes away. The ultimate explanation must therefore undoubtedly.
