Young girl of Varengeville, near Dieppe. The bonnet is of cotton toile. Varengeville is a league and a half from Dieppe. The town gate and main square can be seen in the background. Hand-colored fashion plate illustration by Lante engraved by Gatine from Louis-Marie Lante's "Costumes des femmes du Pays de Caux," 1827/1885. With their tall Alsation lace hats, the women of Caux and Normandy were famous for the elegance and style.
