The flowering plants Zostera marina and Z. nana, the most interesting warm-living relicts in the White Sea, have a very great importance for life in this Sea. Zostera attains a specially large size in the White Sea (up to 2\ m), and on the other hand forms, as in the North Sea, a littoral dwarf variety. Fig. 86b.
