Monumento al Descubrimiento, Plaza de Colon, Madrid, Spain


The Monumento al Descubrimiento de America (Monument to the Discovery of America) in Madrid, Spain. Created by the Spanish artist Joaquin Vaquero Turcios, it was inaugurated in the Jardines del Descubrimiento (Discovery Gardens) of the Plaza de Colon (Columbus) in 1977. It consists of four huge concrete blocks, each block is engraved with figures, texts and names of the history of the discovery. Each of the blocks is dedicated to one aspect of the discovery: "Las Profecías" (The Prophecies), "El Descubrimiento" (The Discovery), "La Génesis" (The Birth). The total length of the monument is around 100m.
