They were not counted however, until July 26th, anduntil August 4th, no efifort had been made to relieve their necessities. That morn-ing the Indians warned Lieutenant Sheehan that they were coming to make ademonstration; that they were coming armed, but intended no harm. A fewmoments later several hundred warriors surrounded the camp, yelling like athousand demons and firing their guns wildly. Though ready for war. theycame for food.
