Rescues Bring Coast Guard Officer Flying Cross. For rescuing this radio man and six other survivors of a destroyed German U-Boat, and successfully performing other dangerous flight missions, the Distinguished Flying Cross was today awarded to Commander Richard L. Burke, Coast Guard, by Secretary of the Navy Frank Knox. The picture shows the German prisoner, wearing an escape lung, being hauled up a pontoon of the Coast Guard officer's plane.
