But I cannot help believingthat, although his other services have conferred moresubstantial benefits upon letters, his most lasting claimon the remembrance of posterity will be under thattitle by which the Royal Society of Literature, in pre-senting him with its gold medal, in 1824, commemo-rated his great achievement—Angela Maio, Palimpsest-orum Inventori et Restauratori ;— Angelo Mai, Discoverer and Restorer of Pa-limpsests.
