In this way, it will readily be seen that as the hingesopen, the hooks to which the spring is attached are separatedfrom each other, and consequently the spring is drawn as soon as the hinges have passed through about three-quarters of the distance they are to swing, the horizontal dis-tance between the points of attachment, at top and bottom ofthe spring becomes less, and the tendency is to draw the dooropen and hold it so.
