17/03/13 Bad carma. Video here: Drivers visiting a car park are being forced into the most unusual positions as they contort their bodies just so they can reach the ticket machines. Only the most skillful drivers are able to drive up to the automatic ticket machines, in one go, without having to reverse to get themselves close enough to reach them. The majority of motorists driving in and out of Derby station car park cannot drive close enough to the poorly placed machines and have to resort to stretching through opened doors and windows or even getting out of their cars to get a ticket. Turning right into the car park doesnÕt pose much of a problem for most drivers but those turning left off Railway Terrace can only swing close enough to reach the buttons if they enter the car park from the wrong side of the road risking a head-on collision with on-coming vehicles. One motorist said: ÒItÕs just ridiculous I always have to reverse a couple of times to get closer. If the machines were positioned just a few yards further in to the car park it would be easy C theyÕre just too close to road.Ó Leaving the car park is no less challenging, although probably a little less dangerous. The ticket machine is positioned at the end of a ninety degree left turn. Road markings encourage drivers to steer sharp right before turning left but most of those that try to follow them still end up in the wrong position. The machine at the exit is dented and shows the scars of many cars that have clouted it. The station car park is free to use for ten minutes for people picking up or dropping off passengers. Drivers taking longer than ten minutes will be charged £6 so there is added pressure for many to get to the barrier with their time-stamped tickets in time. Taxi drivers seem to be the only drivers who consistently make it in and out of the car park smoothly - they are able to position their vehicles close enoug
