In the Masonic fraternityhe attained the highest possible rank and was ])roMiincntly known in Masonic circles through-out this section of the country. His family numbered three children: Mrs. .lames Johnson;Leslie D.; and Sarah Levisa, who was born in IsTO ami <licd at Bartow. Florida, October2, 1894. Leslie D. Colton was a youth when brought to this state and attende<l school in Lisbonand also continued his education in a private school at Burlington. He worked for two years. LESLIE D. He becamea landowner in the fall of 1886 and throughout the intervening period with the exception ofseven years has engaged in farming in this state. He opened the first coal mine in the north-western part of Nortli Dakota in 1893 for his father and with the exception of two years haasince been identified with the coal trade. He is now working two mines on his own land, onoa shaft mine and the other a slope mine. He is also cultivating farm lands and is engaged instock raising, having about sixty head of stock and breeding Holstein cattle and Duroc andPoland China hogs. He has about a section of land devoted to farming a short distanceeast of Burlington and his agricultural interests are wisely and capably managed, bringingto him a very gratifying return.
