False-colour transmission electron micrograph (TEM) of viruses of the parapoxvirus group: both the Orf and Pseudocowpox viruses are identical to these. Note the characteristic \ball of wool\" appearance of the protein envelope. These are DNA viruses. The Orf virus causes contagious pustular dermatitis; a disease which mainly affects sheep, but is transmissible to humans especially from lambs. Painless skin lesions are produced which disappear in weeks. Pseudocowpox (Paravaccinia) on the udders of cows infect the hands of dairy workers (called milker's nodule) producing similar symptoms. Magnification: x19,500 at 6x7cm size."
