The Water Catchment Area and old Marine barracks on Green Mountain on Ascension Island

Ascension Island is an extremely isolated and relatively young oceanic island. It lies about 8 degrees south of the Equator and is approximately mid way across the Atlantic Ocean from Africa to South America. The island is Km from north to south and 14 Km from west to east and has an area of 97 square Km with extremely rugged volcanic terrain. The water catchments were built in the late 19th century to supplement the then insufficient water supply for Georgetown from well on Green Mountain.
