Jhe whites,or Europeans, chiefly British, consist partly ofproprietors, sui)erintending the cultivation oftheir own lands, and partly of agents andoverseers. The negroes have always formedby far the largest portion of the the 1st of August, 1834, they have en-joyed a state of freedom in the British portionof the West Indies.
