James Freeman CEO of Reading buses told me "Ordered last October at a cost of £190,000 each, the first 11 buses built by Alexander Dennis (ADL) in Falkirk Scotland will be in use from Tues 7th May. Each Greenwave bus has 8 composite gas tanks on the roof, that are filled with natural gas from the grid. Costing roughly the same to run as diesel buses, the CNG buses are ultra green, producing no particulates (soot) no hydrocarbons, virtually zero carbon as well as being quieter and smoother. An innovative addition to these new buses, designed to help visually impaired people, is an external audio system that notifies people at the bus stop of its route number. With 9 buses still in production, Reading Buses will have the largest fleet of gas buses in the UK."
