Prince Patrick Island river system. Satellite image of streams (white) on the surface of Prince Patrick Island in the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. This island is underlain by sedimentary rocks, cut by still-active faults. The streams follow a dendritic drainage system, with many contributing streams that are then joined together into the tributaries of the main river. They develop where the river channel follows the slope of the terrain. Imaged by the Advanced Spaceborne Thermal Emission and Reflection Radiometer (ASTER) instrument on NASA's Terra satellite.
