HEPATITIS C VIRUS
The hepatitis C virus is becoming an increasingly frequent cause of viral hepatitis. The virus can be transmitted parenterally (transfusion, injection), via sexual contact, or from mother to fetus via the placenta. A member of the picornaviruses, the hepatitis C virus has a small-sized RNA (20 nanometers) and a capsid with 32 capsomeres.
