Dr. Mindy Simonson, archeologist and Defense POW/MIA Accounting Agency (DPAA) scientific recovery expert, carefully exposes a buried object during a recovery mission on Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands, July 16, 2018. During the recovery mission, DPAA personnel and augmentees spent their days digging and screening in hopes of finding missing Marines lost during the first allied offensive in the Pacific Theater of World War II. The Agency’s mission is to provide the fullest possible accounting for our missing personnel to their families and the nation.
