Vincents parents were owners of a cot-tage and some fields ; and he, the third son in a family of six children, wasemployed in his youth to take charge of the few sheep and swine which con-stituted a chief portion of the available property of a poor but industrious house-hold. Vincent, in his youth, exhibited traits of a thoughtful and intelligentmind.
