The Fifty-second Infantry Illinois Volunteers was organized at Geneva, Kane countv,Illinois, in November 1861, by Colonel J. G. Wilson, and mustered into United Statesservice November 19th, by Lieutenant J. Christopher. November 28th, moved with 045 to St Louis, Missouri, and went into quarters atBenton Barracks. Hire Colonel Wilson resigned. December 8th, the regiment, Lieutenant Colonel J. S. Wilcox commanding, moved toSt. Joseph, Missouri. January 16, 1862, moved to Cairo, via Palmyra, Quincy a\id Missis-sippi liver January 24th, moved to Smithland. February 1t\\, T. W. Sweeny was com-missioned Colonel of the Februury lOlh, 1862, embarked for Fort Donelson, and arrived 17th. 18th, was sentwith prisoners to Chicago. March 7th, nrrived at St. Louis. March 13th, left for Armyof the Tennessee, and 20th, disembarked at gittsburg Landing, and were assigned toThird Brigade, Second Division, Colonel Sweeny commanding Brigade and Gen
