It was natural, therefore, to suppose thatone of the two was Jupiter, who had come to visit and blesshis own place. One might imagine that since Paul was themore active and prominent person of the two, and that it wasindeed at his word the cripple had been healed, they wouldhave selected him for Jupiter. They did, however, fix onBarnabas, perhaps because he was of huge athletic personand venerable presence, answering better than Paul to thatidea of the father of gods and men, which the sculptors hadembodied in marble.
