He was eighteen years old at thisimportant turning point in his life, havingbeen born in Ireland April 4, i860. His par-ents. Cornelius and Nora (Donovan) Dono-van, were the proprietors of a small farm, theresources of which were all too inadequate forthe support of their large family. John J.,the youngest of nine children, was three weeksold when his futher died, but his mother sur-vived until eiglitv-five years old. One daugh-ter died in infancy, and three of the sons areresidents of California. John J. Donovans idea in coming to this. Pie makes a specialty of grain raisingand a large part of his three hundred andeighty acres are under this product, the bal-ance being under beans, corn and devoted tostock-raising. He also farms two hundred ad-joining acres of grain, and has a half inter-est in a thousand-acre tract devoted to grainand general produce.
