FORT NORFOLK, Va. -- Norfolk District, Army Corps of Engineers employees pull oyster floats to out of the water at the district’s pier Oct. 16, 2011. The floats are the result of a partnership between Norfolk District and fourth graders at Virginia Beach’s Seatack Elementary School: they are working together to build an oyster reef along the shore of the district’s property. The effort will not only help clean the Elizabeth River and the Chesapeake Bay as the oysters filter the water, but will help replenish the population of oysters, which is less than 1 percent of its population 200
