TENSOR TARSI AND CORRUGATOR SUPERCILII THE ORBIT. 347 The Inferior Rectus Muscle arises from tl:ie lower margin of the opticforamen througli the ligament or tendon of Zinn. It passes forward along thefloor of the orbit and below the optic nerve, and is inserted into the scleroticcoat of the eyeball about one-fourth to one-third of an inch from the lowermargin of the cornea. Action.—It depresses the cornea, adducts it, and rotates it outward. Neeve Supply.—From the inferior division of the motor oculi or thirdcranial nerve. The inferior rectus muscle can be better studied after the dissection of thevessels, the nerves, and the other muscles has been completed, and those structureshave been removed. Ligament of Zinn.—By observation of the ocular surfaces of the origin ofthe Jour rectus muscles, it will be seen that these muscles arise from a commontendinous ring which is attached around the optic foramen. This common tendonmay be divided into a superior
