In my imagination I see the plains covered withthe white tents of the sons of Jacob. I hear the peoplelifting up their voices and murmuring against the manwho had brought them out of bondage. They are saying,The waters of the Nile are sweet in the green meadowsof the Land of Goshen. There in Egypt we had plentyand to spare. Why hast thou brought us hither to drinkof these bitter waters? Oh that we were again in thegreen fields of Goshen! Oh for a draught of the sweetwaters of the Nile! How soon has the song of rejoicing. Moses, the triedman of God, hears the murmurs of the people, and hecried unto the Lord; and the Lord showed him a tree,which when he had cast into the waters, the waters weremade sweet. I have just read, here at the waters of Marah, thefifteenth chapter of Exodus with wonderful interest. Howreal it all seems when we read of these wonderful occur-rences just where they took place. It is a blessed privilegeto be permitted to wander in the Lands of the Bible and tovisit these places made sacred by their associations. Andhere I record the gratitude of my heart to Almighty Godfor his goodness to me in all my wanderings, and especiallyfor permitting me to visit this place, the scene of Israelstriumph and murmuring.
