This room will also be ofgreatest value in treating hares thattake cold or have any similar them in this room and raisingthe temperature until they are thor-oughly warm—as described more fullyin our chapter on diseases—is often theonly way to preseive their lives. Suchan apartment as this, to be used as anursery and a sanitarium, is as es-sential to a well-equipped rabbitry asthe pens. It may frequently save thelife of a hundred-dollar hare. Full arrangements should be madefor ventilating this room. In dividing off your rabbitry into pensyou may either make the partitionssolid or construct panels which may af-terwards be put in place. If made solid,the upper edges of the wire netting willbe attached to the upper floor and thelower edges to the lower floor. Theportions outside should be made of pan-els, as these are more portable and itwill undoubtedly be necessary, once intwo or three years, to take up the wirenetting which carpets the pens, and tostir up the soil, removing three or fourinches deep from the surface and replac-ing this with fresh earth.
