First Live Bomb Dropped From Plane


First live bomb dropped from a plane. The bomb is held by Lieutenant Myron Crissy (left), in a Wright Brothers' airplane piloted by Philip Parmalee (right). This bomb was dropped on January 15, 1911 during armament experiments at Tanforan race track near San Francisco. The experiments proved that a 36-pound bomb could be dropped within a 20-foot area from 1,500 feet.
