About 40,000 pounds of oriental tobacco is raised near Iringa, and pro- duction of this type tobacco should increase in the future. Prices for many- grades of oriental--as well as flue-cured tobacco--exceed 45 cents equivalent per pound. Exports About 4 million pounds of Tanganyika's tobacco is shipped to other countries-- over 60 percent of it to Kenya because of the duty-free arrange- ments in East Africa's Common Market--usually over 600,000 pounds annually to the Netherlands and slightly less to the United Kingdom. In I960, Tanganyika made small shipments of leaf to Ethiopia, Northern Rhodesia, Somalia, Belgium, the Congo, Rwandi-Burundi, Aden, and West Germany. 79.
