Before their comple-tion, the war came and the entire plant was used as aBase Hospital, and called by the French HopitalComplementaire 25. There were thirty-four buildingsconstructed of brick and stucco, with a capacity offive hundred beds. They were all adapted to hospitalpurposes, and very few changes had to be made. Be-side the buildings there were twenty acres of land whichwere turned over for our use. Our problem was to use the space to the best ad-vantage. As it was to be a war hospital, the surgeonsnaturally chose the majority of the buildings. Themedical men contended that disease was
