German WWII Tiger Tank crosses a field of young crops in a battle re-enactment at Spanhoe Airfield, Northamptonshire Sept 2008

The initial official German designation was Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausführung H (abbreviated PzKpfw VI Ausf. H, Ausführung is German for "version") but the tank was redesignated as Panzerkampfwagen VI Ausf. E in March 1943. Originally just named Tiger, the roman numeral I was added when the Tiger II appeared later.
