This pavement was laid under the following specifica- tions : — All pavements which are composed of amineral aggrregate held together with a bitumin-ous cement, and are mixed without heating themineral aggregate, and laid while cold, mustconform to the following • additional require-ments ;— Pavements of this typ-e must be prepared from bituminous cements and may be laid either in one or two courses. When laidin two courses the bottom course must not beless than i j4 inches thick after ultimate com-pression and contain not over 30 per cent, ofmaterial which will pass openings one-half inchin diameter. This course of stone must be uni-formly coated with sufficient asphalt to bind itfirmly together. It must be laid and rolled to theproper grade and curvature before the top courseJs applied. The top course must not contain any ma-terial which will not pass openings three-quarter-inch in diameter. It must contain not less thanfive
