This second inversionis not often used on the accent of the measure. It is apt, in this case,to sound like a Tonic chord. b. c. a and b are better than c and d, on account of the contrary motionbetween the outer parts. Although the second inversions always enter as above, viz., if atonic, after any chord in the scale ; if a subdominant, after the tonic, root at bass; if a dominant, after the tonic, root or third at bass —they do not always conform to these examples as to the chord that fol-lows them ; but the rest of this subject must be reserved for a laterchapter. HARMONY. 29 The exercises that follow are to be transposed to all the are the last basses that will be given. I. F= —<s^i .—U II. ^g3f^f#if^pF
